5 Food Favorites - March 2023

A review of my current 5 favorite food products as an intuitive eater and Registered Dietitian

Hi, I'm Meagan! Anti-diet dietitian and intuitive eater. As a Registered Dietitian I often get questions about the products I use and recommendations for food items, recipes, snack ideas, and kitchen gadgets.

In my 5 Food Favorites blog, I discuss five of my favorite food products I'm currently using, and other pantry/fridge staples that I recommend trying out!

Spring is approaching! This is one of my favorite times of the year because we get to start looking forward to spring and the days getting a little bit longer :) I love thinking about all of the fun spring recipes I am going to try out, and exploring the new spring food products in the stores. Here are some of my current favorites for March:

  1. RightRice

I love this product! RightRice is a blend of lentils, chickpeas, peas, and rice that incorporates protein, fiber, and veggies into rice made from veggies. It's certified gluten free and is a fun and delicious alternative to your boring, plain rice. I love using this for meal prep, and they currently have a variety of flavors to choose from. My favorite is the cilantro lime!

Where to buy: I purchased my RightRice from Pick 'n Save.

Price: $$

These products are a little more expensive, but a helpful convenience item, especially when it comes to meal planning for the week!

$4.49/7oz. bag

Other notes: I am planning on trying the garlic herb next!

2. Slightly Coated Dark Chocolate Almonds

All I can say is YUM. I love these for an on-the-go snack because they aren't too rich and (obviously) not too coated with chocolate. A great flavor and a healthy, high-protein snack with lots of healthy fats, too!

Where to buy: I purchase these Trader Joes. Aldi also has their own slightly coated nuts product out right now!

Price: $

$4.99/10oz.

Other notes: I am planning on using these to make my own trail mix snack. I am going to include dried fruit, pretzels, pecans, peanuts, pepitas, and this yummy product!

3. Giggles Sour Chewy Candy Bites

It's no secret that I love candy. I've been on the hunt lately for candy without dyes, and I have been trying to eat less of it due to the health risks associated with red #40. These organic Giggles sour bites taste just like sour skittles (only better), and are colored with vegetable juices including turmeric, radish, sweet potato, carrot, and blackcurrant. They are gluten free, peanut and tree nut free, and are so delicious!

Where to buy: These are available at many grocery retail stores and online!

Price: $$

I paid over $6.00 for a 5oz. bag at Pick n Save.

Woodman's also carries this product for almost $2.00 less!

Other notes: YummyEarth also makes regular Giggles (not sour) and a delicious pomegranate licorice. Check it out!

4. Coconut Water

I have been on the mocktail train lately! I have been purchasing coconut water every other week to make delicious mocktails. I love Aldi's Nature's Nectar brand of coconut water, but there are a lot of great brands out there! I am so excited for spring mocktails this year :)

Where to Buy: Local grocery store. Nature's Nectar available at Aldi.

Price: $

Available for about $2.00 for 33 oz.

Other notes: Check out my favorite product #5 for my favorite mocktail recipes!

5. Mocktail Party Recipe Book

Wow, I LOVE this recipe book! Developed by two RDs, Kerry Benson and Diana Licalzi, this book provides 75 plant-based, non-alcoholic drink recipes for any occasion. I have tried quite a few and I am definitely on board. I highly recommend checking out this book!

Where to buy: It is available on amazon and also at some grocery stores.

Price: $

Currently available for $17.96.

Other notes: I still enjoy my occasional glass of wine, but this book has really helped me cut down on my alcohol intake. I physically and mentally feel much better drinking less, and have seen improvements in my sleep and energy!

Looking forward to fun mocktails ALL. SUMMER. LONG!
